my zimbabwean gardener, a longtime sa resident, was arrested for having "incorrect" papers, which he disputed. he was nevertheless taken to silverton police station and told that he would be released on payment of R500, which was subsequently increased to R1000, otherwise he would be transferred to mamelodi police station where he would require a lawyer to arrange bond. he paid and was released. no paperwork was involved. he will not lay charges because he fears the "police gangsters" what a sorry state this country has sunk to concerned citizin
