JMPD issues Speeding Tickets with Camera set at the wrong speed settings

On the evening of March 7, 2025, at 21:02, my family and I were traveling home from our children’s cultural evening at school. We were driving northbound on the M1, with my vehicle set to cruise control at the legal speed limit of 100 km/h.

As we approached the Woodmead intersection, we noticed the speed camera flashing repeatedly. I even remarked at the time that we were within the speed limit. Several vehicles ahead of us also triggered the camera, despite maintaining consistent speeds and following safe distances. Given this observation, I was confident that I was within the speed limit. As I passed the camera, I noticed the camera flashing, to my surprise. Immediately after I arrived home, I downloaded my dashcam footage.

However, this morning, I received an email notification of a speeding fine issued for that date and time, alleging that I exceeded the 100 km/h limit by traveling between 121 km/h and 125 km/h. I have both images and video footage from my dashcam, which clearly show my vehicle’s GPS speed reading at 103km/h at the time in question.

Based on this evidence, I strongly suspect that the speed camera was incorrectly calibrated or malfunctioning, potentially leading to numerous inaccurate fines that evening. My concern extends beyond my own case, as many motorists may have been similarly affected but lack the necessary dashcam evidence to contest their fines. Given this, I believe all fines issued by this JMPD from this camera on that night should be revoked.
