MAGGOT FILLED SAUSAGE ROLLS AT METRO PIES – SIES!!!
So on a busy Wednesday afternoon, 8 November 2023, myself and my 10 year old daughter ran into the Westgate Mall for some errands. On the way out, my daughter said she was hungry, and we went to Metro Pies to get a pie. Since they were out of pies, we opted for a sausage roll. On our way home, my daughter asked what kind of sausage roll it was as it had, what looked like RICE on the inside. I had a look and to my horror found that the pie was FULL of maggots. I immediately went back to Metro Pie in Westgate Mall where I demanded to speak to the manager Rene', she was off site and the staff proceeded to call her. The manager’s attitude was not one of remorse or even concern for myself or my daughter’s health, but rather ran through processes and procedures that would need to be followed. I insisted that I wanted feedback about who would pay for medical bills should we fall ill, and with her nonchalant attitude, again just stated well the sausage roll will need to be sent to the labs and she would get back to me the next morning. The next day, obviously still furious about what had happened and with the way I was handled, I contacted Metro Pies Westgate Mall as well as their head office via email to raise my concerns and only AFTER 13H00 IN THE AFTERNOON, Thursday 9 November 2023, did the manager contact me. She called me to say that she went to fetch the sausage roll at the branch and took it to the labs to have a full investigation because this has never happened before. I asked her if she saw how it looked and she agreed that it was DISGUSTING and that I must give her some time and she will come back to me with a full report as to why this has happened. Again, no concern for humans who may have ingested some of these maggots, FLY LARVA! I said to her if she had the decency to call me in the morning to check on how my daughter and I were feeling, OR EVEN STARTEED HER CALL WITH A SIMPLE, HOW ARE YOU FEELING, I may not have been this irate. Maggots can infect human tissue and cause a disease called myiasi! Untreated myiasis can lead to serious health complications and even death! It is now Tuesday, 14 November 2023, 5 days since I last spoke to her and 6 days since the incident, and I have still heard nothing from her, not a follow up, not a check in not a damn thing! I am 100% sure if this had happened in a more affluent community the matter would have been approached with much more care and concern for their clients! So is it just OK that I am not taken seriously because I am a coloured woman from Mitchells Plain!
I WILL NEVER EAT FROM METRO PIES EVER AGAIN!
We take all complaints seriously at Metro Pie, and we have thoroughly investigated your complaint regarding the sausage roll. As the product was relatively intact, we were able to compare it with our sausage rolls, and despite having been presented in our packaging, we can say with cer*****y that it is not one of our products.
It is absolutely crucial for us to maintain high standards of quality and hygiene in our facilities. That said, we have not received any similar complaints regarding our products from our customers before or since.

As the product was relatively intact, we were able to compare it with our sausage rolls, and despite having been presented in our packaging, we can say with cer*****y that it is not one of our products.

None-the-less, since IT WAS NOT YOUR SAUSAGE ROLL you may have a bigger problem since one of your staff must have gone to another pie shop and "planted" a maggot infested pie. Because according to my card transaction (see attached below) and video footage at METRO PIE WESTGATE MALL, I bought the sausage roll at METRO PIE WESTGATE MALL , it was handed to me by staff working at METRO PIE WESTGATE MALL , and it was taken from the ovens at METRO PIE WESTGATE MALL.
Furthermore, how ironic is it that investigation report that I have been wiating for, for about a week now has still not been shared with me as promised by Rene', but you have the full report within minutes of my review.
I will continue to share my experience on personal social media platforms and through my various contacts, I will pursue local newspapers and relevant activists to ensure no other human being gets treated in this manner or is potentially harmed by yourproducts in the future.
I will also be reporting your shop to the Health Ombud, the National Department Health's Food Control office and request an inspection from COCT, because not only is this lack of compassion for human beings, your product was disgusting (your staff's words) and unsafe.
