DOES MHA HAVE A HOME FOR YOU?
DOES MHA HAVE A HOME FOR YOU? Preparing for Retirement: Every Journey Needs Planning Retirement is often viewed as a significant milestone, a phase of life filled with new possibilities and challenges. For many colleagues and their spouses, the prospect of leaving behind an active ministry and stepping into retirement – whether planned or not - can be quite daunting. As we embarked on this journey, we found that the key to a successful transition lay in the support and guidance we received from the dedicated staff of Methodist Homes of the Aged (MHA) and their warm, friendly team at Arbor Village. Their assistance, combined with the quality of work done in refurbishing our new cottage, made this transition seamless and enjoyable. Finding the Right Guidance The reason we began considering moving to a retirement village was that we knew we would inevitably need a support system of some kind and finding the right community would be crucial. The staff at MHA stood out immediately for their professionalism, empathy, and comprehensive understanding of the needs of retiring clergy. They offered personalized advice, taking the time to understand our specific requirements and preferences. Their expertise helped us navigate the myriad of options available, ensuring that we made informed decisions every step of the way. Arbor Village: A Community Like No Other Choosing Arbor Village as our retirement community was one of the best decisions we have ever made. The staff at Arbor Village went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and valued. From the first visit, we were struck by their genuine warmth and friendliness. Before we even move in, the residents themselves arranged a meet and greet ‘bring and share’ supper so as to introduce us to other ‘new’ residents, making the process of integrating into the community smooth and enjoyable. The Cottage: A New Beginning One of the highlights of our retirement preparation was being allocated the cottage of our dreams… it was really just what we wanted. The quality of the refurbishment work exceeded all our expectations. Every detail was meticulously planned and executed, allowing us to choose modern, energy-efficient fixtures to the tasteful interior design that made the space feel both luxurious and homely. The refurbishment team worked closely with us, taking into account our personal tastes and requirements. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellence ensured that our new home was not just a place to live, but a space where I could truly thrive. The cottage now stands as a testament to the high standards and dedication of everyone involved in the project. Reflecting on the Journey Looking back on this journey, I realise that it began long before we retired from active ministry. We began to save and put funds aside because we knew the day would eventually arrive for us to downsize from our sprawling ‘empty’ family home and move into a more secure environment. With encouragement of friends, I placed our name on the ‘waiting list’ with MHA several years ago, never thinking that the day would arrive so quickly. But now it has… and we are immensely grateful for the exceptional guidance and support we received. The staff at MHA and Arbor Village played an instrumental role in making this transition smooth and enjoyable. Their expertise, warmth, and dedication provided us with the peace of mind and confidence needed to embrace this new chapter of our lives. Moving into a beautifully refurbished cottage within such a vibrant and supportive community promises to be a blessing. It will allow us to focus on enjoying our retirement, exploring new hobbies, and forming lasting friendships. Answering the Question So, does Methodist Homes for the Aged have a home for you? I believe it does. Go and see the villages for yourself and see what they offer – there’s bound to be a place that’s just perfect for you. To all my colleagues who are preparing for retirement, I cannot stress enough the importance of finding the right support and community. Our experience has shown us that with the right guidance, retirement can be a truly enriching and joyous journey. Thank you to everyone at MHA and Arbor Village for making this possible.
