MERCURY NEWSPAPER
Tues / 26 May : Good day. I have been a Subscriber to the ( Natal ) MERCURY Newspaper since the Mid-70's. In having had my own Company from 1 April 1981 through to my Retirement on 1 July 2015 and being Durban-based; I have used the MERCURY as a Business reference and of course; to keep informed as to both Local and International news. The decades of subscription surely indicate my enjoyment ( And indeed : Loyalty ) in respect of this 5-Day / Week publication. In having awaited any sign of improvement for the past year or so; I am now forced to voice my concern and yes; anger ..... Against the low reporting-level quality and / or content of the publication; let alone its evident increasing BIASED / BLIND political support of the Ruling Party / Government. It has always been my understanding that a Newspaper would endeavor to be Politically Neutral; making fair and objective comment. In my opinion; this is certainly no longer the case with the MERCURY and I am finding increasing difficulty to hold on to my long-term; loyal subscription. I have always been one who maintains a DAILY interest in World events; be it Business-related; Trends or Happenings. As my business was Commodity Trading-related; it was vital to keep informed on all aspects. I have actually written to the MERCURY [ Letters and Editor ] voicing my concerns; to which I did not even receive an acknowledgement; let alone have my e-mail published in the Letters section. Although I doubt this : Am I ALONE in my perception and concern as to the continued downward-spiral to mediocrity / lowest common denominator / political mouth-piece of this more than a Century-old; proud Durban / Natal legacy ? ? Best Regards / John
