I've worked for Merchants and I really needed the job at the time. I have been hospitalised for 3 days and could provide the necessary medical certificates, but on returning to work a few days before the end of January 2024, i was called into the office and let go. This all happened after returning to work from hospital. They just mentioned that I could get unemployment documents to claim UIF. I have emailed the somewhat arrogant "HR" (Mickyle Singh) guy and Teamleader Lay Radjoo regularly to request these document and they do not even acknowledge my emails. Another lady promised to assist, and until today I am still waiting for these documents. There are staff members who were absent more often with stories that seemed made up at the time, but they are still employed. A team member keeps marijuana in his locker and you can clearly see he is smoked up (which he does on the premises), but this just gets overlooked. He often has alcohol in his water bottle, but they are still employed. This company promotes and employs youngsters because they can exploit these youngsters and treat them like kids.
