Steering Rack collapsed 39000km`s 2013 Vito 122cdi

Our vehicle was booked in at Mercedes Bedfordview for a check up as there was noise coming from the front wheels. They kept the vehicle overnight and advised that they found no fault on the vehicle. 2 weeks later, the vehicle started making a huge humming sound. We called Mercedes assist for help. After having the operator drop the call in my ear several times we were then given a number of one of the technicians from Roodepoort. Unfortunately, he was too Intoxicated to attend to the problem. Finally, after numerous attempts to get Mercedes assist out, 2 vehicles arrived to attend to the complaint. The technicians inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the steering pump did not have any hydraulic oil in it. They could not detect any leaks on any of the hydraulic pipes. Any leakage would have left an oil spill clearly visible on the floor or in the vehicle under carriage. We enquired with Merc Bedfordview as to what was checked and why was this not detected. The outcome was that there was no job card opened. We have owned this car for less than a year and have had to fork out R20k to get the steering rack replaced. Poor service from a blue chip brand!
