Poor quality and service

I purchased a demo model Mercedes B200 from the Umhlanga dealership in April 2016- I fetched it on the 15th. On the 28th May, I washed the car for the first time as it had rained heavily a number of times after purchase so there was no need to wash it prior to this. While lifting up the windscreen wiper to wash the windscreen, the blade came off the metal part in my hands. This resulted in the metal portion falling back onto the windscreen. The following morning, we heard a loud sound and found that the windscreen had shattered at the point of impact when the metal part fell onto the windscreen.

I contacted the dealership and after going to and from with them and Mercedes South Africa, I was advised that they would not accept any responsibility for the incident. I was advised that there is a clip which holds the blade to the metal part and I could have pressed it when picking up the wiper; and that if there was a prior problem, the problem would have been identified during the time I was driving the car prior to the incident as the wiper would have vibrated or come off.

The only remedy offered by Mercedes Benz Umhlanga was to cover the cost of the excess on my insurance!

I cannot understand how the vehicle passed the pre-delivery inspection if something like this happened - surely this should have been checked before the vehicle was handed over to me. As far as I am concerned, this was not a fault or an accident on my side and I see no reason why I should be held accountable for something like this happening.
If there is some sort of clip that I could have pressed, it is ridiculous that the wiper can come apart so easily. That means that each time the wiper is picked up, there is the potential for something like this to happen! Surely, there should at least be *****s holding the entire thing together.
The claim that the wiper would have vibrated or come apart is not plausible - this entire wiper is heavy and from what I can see, as long as it is on the glass, the blade would have been held in place by the weight of the metal part.

If this was an accident or something that I caused, I would not have bothered accepting responsibility. However, my insurance premiums and no claim bonus are now going to be affected for something which is not even my fault!

I am extremely disatisfied with the level of service from Mercedes in general. I had actually complained during the post purchase survey in April but to date have not heard anything from Mercedes in that regard! Further to this, my family has not had good experiences with Mercedes in the past and this will most likely be the last time we buy another Mercedes.

I would not recommend this dealership at all and I would in fact urge others to carefully consider the brand of car you buy in future. Higher prices don't always mean better quality or better service!
