Petrol Tank Defect Mercedes SL500 - Shocking !!

<p>Having bought a top of the range Mercedes SL500 roadster I was very dissapointed at the attitude of Mercedes Benz as a whole. At 60 000kms my car developed a banging noise coming from the rear - after visiting Sandown Motors and having it confirmed by an outside source it turns out that my vehicle has a defect in the petrol tank such that the buffers installed inside the petrol tank to stop petrol slushing around have somehow come loose and are now knocking around inside the petrol tank. I have been told that there is no way to fix this other than replacing the entire petrol tank at around R39 000.</p> <p>A friend of mine who has the same car but a later model also with just over 60 000kms has the exact same problem. You cannot tell me that is not a factory fault - but Mercedes Benz SA refuses to take any responsibility which is shocking and unacceptable.</p>
