EIS on Mercedes that fails

So for the last few days my 2008 C350 started giving me problems that it doesn't want to start. I took it to Mercedes and seems its the EIS unit and the replacement cost is around R15 000. I have checked and there's thousands of people that has the same problem on the 2008 models and Mercedes did do a campaign and noted only 10 cars are effected but instead there's thousands of people posting about this issue. I can't believe that Mercedes makes a car and then a crucial part breaks and they don't want to take responsibility or is this a way for them to ensure people will buy from them in the future?
