Better double check that service quote...

My mother took her B class into Mercedes Bedfordview for a "check up" as the car makes a squeaking noise when she reverses and brakes in reverse. (noise only occurs in reverse)

The car is no longer in motor plan, and a quote was requested prior to any work being carried out.

When inspecting the car they informed her they would need to replace all the breaks on the car as well as a rear shock, and the total quote given telephonically, would be R12k.

When my mother queried why she would need new front & rear breaks. The Service rep said he would go personally check her car to confirm the reason as to why her breaks needed replacing. On his return he informed her he does not know why they want to replace the breaks as the back breaks still have 85% useful life remaining and the front breaks still have 45% remaining.

The service rep then provided an updated physical quote on the replacement of the rear shock only and informed her there was no stock of this part so she could collect her car.

The next day when collecting her car the service rep was on leave and the person who was handing her car over informed her that her breaks were changed. My mother informed them she did not give permission to change breaks , that is not what she discussed with the service rep so her breaks could not have been replaced.

Her car was released with out having to make payment...

This is rather concerning as it appears as if

1- The dealership does not know what parts actually need to be replaced.

2 - The dealership will charge a customer to replace parts that are still ok.

3 - The department is not speaking to one another as one person says the parts don't need to be replace yet another says the parts have been replaced.
