Dubious ********* **************** from Mercedes Benz

I booked my car in for its last services/maintenance of the 100 000KM/5 Year all costs covered Mercedes Benz Motor Plan. By the time I made the booking the car was under 100 000KM. I drove to the dealer to make the booking, and they took down my details and did not write down the KM reading nor ask about it. I was more than shocked to be informed by the service advisor from East Rand Mercedes Benz that my 100 000 km service will not be covered by Mercedes Head Office as my car was out of Maintenance plan as the mileage was reading 100 266, in spite of the fact that the service indicator stated that I still had more than ****M to drive before the next service.

I was told by the service advisor that the sales person that sold me the car should have told me that I was not to exceed the 100 000KM not even by a KM. I then posed the question to her that she was my service advisor the last time I took the car in for a service with them, why did she not inform me of such critical information if that was the case, and why did they set the mileage indicator to exceed the 100 000KM if they had intended that the car was to be brought back prior the 100 000. She simply could not answer and just diverted back to the salesperson that sold me the car.

I then called Mercedes Benz Customer Response Centre, where I was told that I must speak to the Dealer Principal to write a letter of Goodwill on my behalf to the Maintenance division as the service advisor should have informed me of the mileage on my previous service with them.

I told her what they had said at the Customer Response Centre and she spoke to the Dealer Principal and then they called me after their discussion. Basically the Dealer Principal stuck to the story of the service advisor and also could not answer the same questions I posed to her and said that it was my responsibility and that I should have known. He eventually said he was going to write them the letter I had told him that they said he needed to write. They then requested that I leave the car with them while they are sorting out the issue with the maintenance division, which I did only to receive a call later in the afternoon informing that the maintenance division refused to pay for the car and that they requested proof that the car was indeed under the 100 000KM mark when I made the booking.

This is totally unacceptable from a brand I trusted.
