Unexpected un-classy customer service

I am a young professional and the time has come for me to spoil myself and buy a new car. Prior to this last weekend I had my heart set on the Mercedes A-class; despite never having driven one. My liking was purely based on design, esthetics and the Mercedes badge.

On Saturday I first visited BMW only to get a base line comparison before test driving the Mercedes A-class. BMW way surpassed my expectations and I had a very unexpected bad customer service experience at Mercedes. While at BMW I was made to feel valued, comfortable and that the company (and the sales consultant) would go the extra mile to meet my needs. At Mercedes I experienced the opposite.

While meeting with the Mercedes sales consultant, she continuously looked at her watch as if she did not have time for us and that made me feel uncomfortable. Whereas at BMW the focus was on what would meet my requirements followed by a deal that would suit me. The opposite was true at Mercedes, with price being the focus from the start and the consultant implying I could not afford the vehicle.

During the Mercedes test drive, very little information and specs about the car was provided and I walked away disappointed not knowing much about the car – nor the distinguishing features of this highly rated vehicle,

Given this upfront sales experience, I am questioning the on-going customer support – which is indeed a deciding factor between these two “luxury” brands.

Although I test drove the A-class; the service I received deserves an “F”.
