Lever for adjusting the seat

The lever that is adjusting the seat had a problem . I took my car to Mercedes Benz Centurion where Karen is my service advisor . She told me that the lever is broken inside and i have to pay . Why should i pay for something that is broken inside , when i adjust a seat i dont go inside i just hold the lever. I would like this lever to be repaired without me paying
