On behalf of the sick and helpless

My father was admitted to this hospital 3 months ago after he suffered a stroke . While he was in the "supposed" care of this hospital he suffered another stroke. He complained that he was being ill treated by some of the staff members. On one occasion , i went to visit him and found him lying naked , with his body partially off the bed. His one leg was on the floor and he was not covered with a blanket. At this point there was a staff member on duty in the ward looking through some paperwork at the patient right beside my father's bed. She quickly ran over to him and tried to help him back onto the bed and cover him when she realized that i was his daughter. He was later transferred to a rehabilitation center for physiotherapy . Thereafter he came back home. My father is a diabetic and his sugar levels were very high and he had a wound on his foot and we therefore had to have him admitted once again. This time around the situation deteriorated. My mother found him on several occasions unwashed. He has also developed serious bedsores. The staff failed to dress him in hospital attire , and was naked and they have not dressed him up in adult nappies as he should be because he is unable to use the toilet by himself. I fear for all the patients who are helpless , sick and dependant in these inconsiderate and unsympathetic staff who have no care in the world for there jobs. This is only half of the complaints about the staff at Melomed hospital in Mitchells Plain , Cape Town. I am devastated and unhappy and this matter will be taken further . The provincial government need to know about such matters affecting its people , be it public or private.
