Melomed Gatesville Reception on floor one - worst encounter in a hospital setting ever. Avoid going past first floor reception
On the 29th of March 2024 we made our way to visit my gran at Gatesville after being admitted from the ER (ER medics, staff, Dr Latoo, everyone in the ER were amazing, hands down the best ER experience we have ever had)
things started falling apart when we visited two days later.
1. no one informed us my granny had been moved 2. When we came out of the lift we immediately looked at the patient info screen as there were quite a few folks disembarking from the lift. We are in a private conversation for about ten seconds flat about not seeing our granny's name on the screen. At this point the reception, a man I wish to never encounter again says in Afrikaans but I will translate here "why dont you people greet and enquire about who you are looking for". Mind you we would have most likely had done this but his approach is the most disgusting customer interaction I have ever had. I will never forget this for the rest of my life. My granny is in renal failure and this is how we get to start visiting here. Met with the worst person I have ever had to come across in a hospital setting.
It gets worse, when he realises his sarcasm was a mess to begin with, he can't find my granny on the system, she is not on the patient screen, two more people appear and they cant find her either, they panic and say she must have been discharged (we live in the home she would have been discharged to), they still cant find her, they eventually do, no apology, nothing. Just a group of soulless people who man reception on the first floor.
I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MAN'S FACE, HIS WORDS AND HIS UGLINESS. We were distressed with this whole encounter, and still are. While the whatsapp message and social media follow up is appreciated, thank you again, we are emotionally distressed by it all. My mom will not be visiting the hospital at all because of this encounter. I fear having to see that man again. When we left the patient info screen was still not updated so I guess that's that on that.
