I was admitted to Melomed Hospital Mitchells Plain on 10 July 2026 for treatment of multiple boils and was placed in General Ward, Room GM. On the night of 13 July, I had an unpleasant experience with a member of the night shift staff, EN Nurse Jenniker. She came to my bed to connect my IV drip. I informed her that my drip had already been connected. She asked who had connected it, and I rep**** that I had done it myself. Following my response, she spoke to me in what I considered to be an unacceptable tone and with a disrespectful attitude. I felt disrespected and responded by asking, "Who gave you the right to speak to me like that?" I would also like to point out that the day shift staff consistently provided excellent care and were always available to assist patients in the ward. Unfortunately, this was not my experience with the night shift staff. After my drip was completed, I went outside for a smoke. When I returned, I went to the reception area and asked Registered Nurse M. Mchunu for the name of the nurse who had spoken to me disrespectfully. She refused to provide the name and instead asked what had happened. I repeated my request several times. She then contacted the night supervisor and reported that I was screaming, provoking her, and causing a disturbance. I strongly dispute this version of events. The reception area is monitored by CCTV cameras that, to my knowledge, record both video and audio. I request that these recordings be reviewed, as I believe they will accurately reflect my behaviour and the conversation that took place. The following morning, Registered Nurse M. Mchunu continued the discussion about the previous night's incident. I again explained that all I had asked for was the name of the nurse who had been disrespectful towards me and that I had asked for it several times the night before. Instead of addressing my concern, she told me that I was rude. I also have a recording of this conversation, which I am willing to provide as part of the investigation. In addition, on a previous occasion during my admission, Registered Nurse M. Mchunu refused to apply prescribed cream to the boils behind my legs, despite the fact that I could not reach or properly see those areas myself. I found this to be unprofessional and inconsistent with the level of care I had received from the day shift staff, who consistently went above and beyond to assist patients. It is concerning to think that if I was treated in this manner, other patients may also be experiencing similar treatment. I managed to record part of the interaction at the reception desk. Although the recording does not capture the entire incident, it does show that I remained calm while simply requesting the name of the nurse from Registered Nurse M. Mchunu. I also have a recording of the conversation that took place the following morning. I respectfully request that Melomed Hospital Mitchells Plain conduct a thorough investigation into these incidents, including a review of the CCTV footage (and audio, if available) from the reception area, together with both of my recordings. I also request that appropriate action be taken to ensure that all patients are treated with professionalism, dignity, and respect. I trust that this complaint will be taken seriously and that I will receive a written response outlining the outcome of the investigation.

Worst patient care ever. The front desk lady at trauma needs to be trained on patient care instead of making patients feel their medical scheme won't cover the bill. First check before you assume. Train your staff better empathy skills and handling patients

This is by far the absolute worst hospital I have eve been to in my life. Day hospitals operate more efficiently. I have been sitting for 3 hours with possible appendicitis, where the symptoms include fatigue, headaches and abdominal pain. I have been classified as yellow on the triage scale which says I will be treated in 1 to 2 hours but we at hour 3 going onto hour 4. Emergency reception staff don't open the door when you press the button, no proper communication with timeliness you can expect to be seen. You ask the staff questions and they just walk right passed you in the emergency section center. I will never every sit foot in another Melomed due to this poor service. Thes probably people treat the patients like they're unimportant, yet fail to understand the patients pay their salary. Absolutely disgusting, I will also be putting the on various social platforms to ensure that the everyone knows pathetic this hospital is

A while ago I was hospitalised at Melomed, but had to stay 1,5 days pass medical aid coverage. I contacted the hospital to let them know I just became unemployed, but awaiting a payout that could take 3 months, meaning by end September. I spoke to Craig Minnies, who called me again & with an attitude, told me I said end August, to which I said I told him up to 3 months, but I can borrow the money to pay, however, I had issues with the bill. I was charged for 4 patches, where I received 1, they also charged for something I am allergic for. They 1st removed the item I am allergic for and then deducted a portion from the patches. In the end I just made payment(over R9000 for 1 & half day) because I got sick of dealing with them. People, please check your bills, especially those on medical aid, most times medical aid just pays, but unaware of which items were utilised
