Waiting Period - chronically approved medication

I recently joined Medshield on the MediValue Prime option, largely due to the chronic benefits offered.

After joining and having my chronic medication approved, I was informed that I am still in a waiting period and therefore cannot claim for medication I urgently need. This completely defeats the purpose of joining a medical aid for chronic support.

What is particularly frustrating is the experience when trying to resolve this. I have been passed between multiple departments, with no clear accountability or resolution. Instead of trying to assist or explore possible solutions, I am repeatedly met with the same response and a strict reliance on rules, without any attempt to help in a practical way.

I fully understand that waiting periods may apply, but the impact of this on access to essential chronic medication was not clearly communicated. As it stands, I am required to pay out of pocket for necessary treatment despite being a paying member while I wait. 3 Entire months of me paying the full amount and not a single benefit I can claim that I truly need.

I would appreciate: • Clear confirmation of what is and is not covered during the waiting period • Whether any interim support or exceptions can be considered for essential medication • A single point of contact to resolve this matter without being redirected

I am hoping Medshield can provide clarity and a workable solution as a matter of urgency.
