I have been communicating with Medshield regarding adding a new beneficiary on my medical aid. They have added my husband on my funder with ease and added a 3month waiting period which is acceptable. What was unacceptable was that they added an exemption on PMB which is a major concern on my side. Problem being is that my husband work on the road mostly and should he get in an accident he will need to go to a state hospital even though i am paying the medical aid a steep contribution to have him on my medical aid.
I have even spoken to one of the consultants that stated to me according to CMS they can add the PMB exemption as they work according to their act. (Proof that cannot even be provided)
Word by work as per the email: "unfortunately the Act does not mention PMB if a member does not have cover for more than 90 days. However the scheme cannot make rules without approval from our board of directors who need permission from The Council for Medical Schemes"
Do I really need to revoke my membership with them and go to Discovery and pay higher fees but receive better service?
It’s really unfortunate that they cannot even PROOF why they added the PMB exemption if they already added a 3months waiting period. The 90days of not being on a medical aid does not make sense as I have known of near family that went on a medical aid and not being on one for more than 3years and still did not have PMB exemptions or waiting periods.
As said previously I do not mind the 3mont general waiting period but PMB means that it’s a life threatening event and need immediate assistance.
