Myself and my family have been members of Medshield since 1984, and at a time of my life I need professional assistance, it has not been forthcoming at all! My husband passed away intestate mid-October 2018. In trying to cut costs as a matter of urgency, I advised Medshield who removed my husband as a dependent, and requested that my son, who has been sick with Thrombocytopenia for 10 years, be moved from his membership and transferred to mine as a dependent. I was assured by several of the staff at customer care that this would take effect as of the beginning of December. My account was still being billed every month for both mine and my son's fees. I then received an sms saying that his membership had been terminated. In shock, I called with a reference number to try and find out if he'd been moved to me as a dependent. This had NOT been done although they terminated his membership, and I was still being billed for fees every month without fail. If my son becomes ill whilst his membership is suspended, we as a family will be in serious trouble as I have no access to funds at all. We have called them every day, an although they say it will be rectified, NOTHING has been done, and, with reference numbers, we have had to explain repeatedly to every single call centre person we spoke to!! This has been going on since the 25th of October, and they have done nothing to help or rectify the situation. We have paid faithfully since 1984, and yet are apparently not valued at all as a valid member! I have bank statements to prove we've been paying every month, and yet day by day, nothing get done. It is totally unbelievable service from a company that purports to be a reliable Medical Aid! I am living not only with the grief of losing a husband, but the trauma associated to know that despite numerous calls and e-mails, my son is NOT yet been added to my membership as a dependent!!
