Medshield? NO Medendanger is more like it

On the 12 of December 2018 I went to see an eye specialist. My condition was apparently so severe that he recommended urgent surgery. On the same date I called the medical aid, gave them all the codes for the surgery and requested authorisation. I received the response next day, the authorisation was approved. On the 14th of December 2018 I went for surgery. On the 21th January 2019 I received invoice from the Dr’s office showing outstanding amounts that the medical aid did not pay: R1620.13 for the Tisseal sealant kit and R143 for Duraplug insert temp. Both this services were on the codes I supp**** to the medical for which I received approval. I don’t understand why I’m now expected to pay for this service. I called the medical aid and I was told they paid as per scheme rate and that this amounts were beyond the scheme rates. The authorisation did not state any conditions under which certain money will not be paid maybe I could have gone to the public hospital to avoid paying money I do not have.

I pay for medical aid actually because I can not afford to pay such amounts from my pocket. I am very disappointed with Medshield. This is not what your adverti*****ts say.
