MEDSHIELD MEDICAL AID SCHEME - BEWARE

Terrible medical aid. I am going to cancel as soon as possible. I pay R1700 a month for this but have to pay most of the amount on chronic meds when it’s supposed to be covered. They don’t cover anything. The chronic medication came up to R990 - I had to pay more than R600. The one specialist appointment they had to cover for the year that cost me R3000 out of pocket, they made every excuse not to pay. First, the doctor’s stamped invoice was not enough. Next we sent proof from our bank, that was also inadequate. It’s now a month gone by and still no luck with this terrible medical aid. I should have went with discovery. Sure you pay more, but you save more in the long run instead of these schemes that cover the bare minimum. TERRIBLE. BEWARE.

We have attempted to contact them so many times and still the consultants either waste our time, put us on hold or the call gets cut. No proof of payment is good enough. I’m not surprised the specialist charged upfront for the consultation instead of having to battle with this medical aid.
