Medshield making us chose between life and death

On the 25th of August my child could not breath and I took him to an emergency unit and one of the test that was taken in order for him to be treated cost 2,400 and the medical aid did not pay and when I called today the consultant told me that there is no clear reason for non payment. I feel like the medical aid is making us chose between life and death because my child could have died without that test because he can't get proper treatment without a proper diagnosis and the medical aid keeps on declining these tests but I want to know don't these tests fall under PMB when someone's life is at risk.
