Medshield is a ****
No matter how excited you are, do not take out a medical aid from medshield. Last year I became employed for the first time. I chose the mediphila option as it seemed affordable and suitable for my medical needs because I'm not on chronic medication and I'm generally a healthy person with no children or spouse. The doctor nearest to me in their network charges R400 for daily visits, they only pay R366. In their list of benefits, they say I'm entitled to R120 monthly supply of oral contraceptives but they won't even pay for triphasil in full, which is R94. I had to co-pay for it after they declined to pay for Yaz, Diane and Diva. On Saturday, for the very first time in my life, I had excruciating abdominal pain and I suspected appendix. I called the ambulance and I was admitted for two days and 1 night. They still would not pay the service provider because I've been with the scheme for less than a year. I've been with them for 11 months!
