Medshield HELP NEEDED

We are beyond devastated, and completely stressed. Our mother was scheduled to go in today, and all was approved. She was literally in theatre, the doctor was about to start, when he was stopped because there was some sort of confusion with the medical aid. We had the correct authorisation, with the correct hospital and doctors details from them, but somehow their system was reflecting another doctors details (we went for 2 opinions). Can you imagine what my mom was going through at that point? being stopped just before heart surgery? They then sent us a new authorisation limiting the procedure amount to R315k - which is to include all doctors fees, a 7 night stay 3 of which are in ICU, all bloods, all x rays and everything. This was never stipulated on the previous authorisations we've received - all was approved with no "global fee" limit, as they are now calling it.. The valve alone that they have to replace in my mom's heart has a cost of R230k - so realistically how can R315k be sufficient cover? Are they expecting us to cover hundreds of thousands? If not millions, should something happen? Is this what we have medical aid for? We have come from the Cape, Limpopo province and all over the country to be with my mom, as she is old and needs us there as she's goes through this. We were given 100% approval with no R315k " global fee" limit. Now all of a sudden they've imposed an amount that will most likely not even cover the procedure with one day in ICU? This is a heart operation - not a toe nail removal, what are you doing Medshield? My mother's heart has to endure this stress you are putting on us. The doctor said he has never had to deal with this, its completely new and unrealistic. So what are you doing Medshield? Sending my mom home to die? The doctor has just said that no medical aid has ever done this to their patient, its cruel and inhumane. I have a law degree and have now just sent an email to my colleague who deals with these types of issues. Further to this I am contacting the council of medical schemes in the morning - a limit cannot simply just be imposed when there was none previously. You are dealing with someones life as you sit behind your desks making these decisions and typing on your keyboards. No wonder you are losing clients and people are preferring to go with trustworthy schemes like Discovery.
