live in pain for the rest of your life
<p>I have been with Medshield for years. I have a lower back problem that I have been suffering from for a couple of years. The Medical Aid used to pay for a lumber infiltration one's a year that releaved my pain and made me more mobile. I upgraded to a highter plan at the end of last year now medshield doesn't cover the procedure anymore. I had injections done into my back in the doctors room that I paid for myself but it didn't relief the pain at all. At the present moment I can't walk long distances, i can't bend, I can,t bath, as i can't get in and out of the bath. I live in constact pain. The neurosurgen then adviced that we do a facet block on my back. But one's again the medical aid wouldn't pay for it, not even with motivation letters from the dr. We then tried to get autorisation for a Resotomy but one again the medical aid wouldn't give autohorization. I pay nearly R4000 per month for myself to be on medical aid.</p> <p> </p> <p>So it looks like no pain relive for me I am only 43 years old and have to live like an old lady of 90 just because the medical aid wil not help me to live pain free or I have to drink pain ****ers every 2 hrs.</p> <p> </p>

With reference to your complaint, kindly note, it was escalated to our hospital pre-authorisation department for further review.
Kindly note, as per scheme records, in 2015 only an epidural injection was requested and done as per final codes received from the hospital. In 2016, the initial request was for an epidural injection and a facet block, the authorisation was denied due to a facet block being a scheme exclusion. The second request was for a Lumbar Rhizotomy and Facet Infiltration of which was also denied due to it being Scheme exclusion. Please note, if the authorisation request was for only for an epidural injection, this would be reviewed by the scheme.
