Empty promises

<p>I signed up with Medshield just after I got married, as they are affordable and their plans and agents seemed promising. One agent came to see me in order to explain the different plans. He made promises that Medshield Mediphila plan would cover my specific contraception (as it is really expensive out of pocket), and gynaecologist visits in case i were to fall pregnant, and that it would cover a lot of my medication as well.</p> <p> </p> <p>This plan doesn't cover any medication from pharmacies when ever i get ill, doesn't cover my contraception, and i just recieved a bill from my gynaecologist as well that needs to be settled BY MYSELF! </p> <p> </p> <p>Seriously angry and not impressed at all with the difficulty this medical aid has put me through. Where is the money going that i pay every month ??? </p>

Good day

Medshield Medical Scheme has acknowledged your Hello Peter complaint and would like to thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

With reference to the benefits offered on your option, MediPhila.

With reference to your oral contraceptive medication it is Restricted to 1 month’s supply to a maximum of 12 prescriptions per annum per female beneficiary, with a script limit of R90. Limited to the Scheme’s Contraceptive formularies and protocols. Please note the list of medication on the formulary is accessible on the Medshield website: www.medshield.co.za . As per Scheme records we do not have any confirmation provided to yourself regarding any specific contraception being covered by the Scheme. If you can provide the Scheme with the approval we can review this.

With reference to the latest account from your gynaecologist, this account has been paid in accordance to scheme rules to the provider. Please note the provider is charging private rates hence the claim paid correctly.

The MediPhila option offers members a separate Acute Medication limit subject to the Acute Medication formulary. If medication is dispensed from your GP, this cost will be included in your GP consultation but should it be required that you get your medication from a MediPhila Network pharmacy this cost will come from your Acute Medication benefit. It is important that you make your GP/Pharmacy aware that your option has an acute formulary and any medication not on the formulary will not be covered. Schedule 1 and 2 medications offered as PAT (pharmacy advised therapy) will be covered from your Acute Medication benefit subject a R50 script limit.

On behalf of the Scheme, I unreservedly convey our apologies to you for any misunderstanding, frustration and inconvenience experienced.

Yours sincerely,

Rehna Perumal
