Disappointed by Medshield yet again
My son went to see a specialist this morning which I paid cash for and upon consultation the specialist recommended my son be admitted for an emergency procedure. I phoned to get an authorization number as i was sitting at the specialist room and was told because my membership is under a year old then I would have to wait for authorization to be approved. i'm actually very annoyed because I spoke to 3 different people and was told they would load the authorization request and come back to me. I find this ridiculous because I was at the hospital sitting with my son in pain and cannot be attended due to a pending authorization number. My question is why pay for cover when you cannot be covered even in case of an emergency.......?????

With reference to the said hospital authorisation, the Scheme received the pre authorisation request on 21/08/2017 which was pended for a non-disclosure process that needs to be followed. It should be noted, for any member/s that have joined the Scheme within the last 12 months, a non-disclosure process is followed. This is a standard process for all authorisation requests for members that are on the Scheme for less than a year. An investigation into a non-disclosure does not imply that your authorisation will be declined.
Kindly note, our hospital department MSO (Medical Services Organisation) is awaiting the medical records from your treating doctor. Once this has been received and reviewed, then will the authorisation be approved / declined in accordance to scheme rules.
We trust you find the above in order.
Yours sincerely
