Authorisation denied for spinal surgery.

My husband requires an urgent operation. According to his Orthopedic Surgeon he has compression of the spinal cord in the lumber spine. Urgent decompression and fusion is required. He is in pain and has weakness and numbness of his lower limbs. He was due to be admitted on the 18/10/2018. On the 16/10/2018, we received an email with a denied authorisation. No explanation as to why. An email was sent to Medshield on 17/10/2018, we are still awaiting feedback. Spinal cord compression is a PMB (941A), so why the delay. Are they waiting for it to affect his bladder, bowl movement, or for paralysis to set in.

The medical advisor has denied this authorisation based on his knowledge, which I presume is above that of a spinal surgeon. So what is his suggestion???? Medshield has no empathy towards its members. He is in constant pain, which is affecting his job and personal life.If we do not receive urgent feedback we will be taking this up with CMS/NHS
