Bad advice from doctors and pharmacist

I took my son in to Carlswald Medicross yesterday. He had been running a fever since the early hours of the morning. I found out that our regular gp had left and agreed to see a locum doctor. I explained the frequency of the fevers and what meds I had been using. I explained that certain meds are not effective for my son and the fever was coming on high every 2 hours. she prescribed something to be given only every 6 hours. when I asked what I should do if the fever goes up before 6 hours she didn't have much answers. she said the meds she prescribed will suffice. I asked the pharmacist and he said the same. At 10 pm last night my son's fever was at 39,9 after he had taken the meds 2 hours prior. I didn't know what to do. I called my sister in law who is a nurse and she recommended that I continue with the meds I had been giving him as the meds prescribed by the doctor were more for pain and headaches and would not be effective with such high fevers.

I am extremely upset with the useless pathetic advice I received. I know I don't have a PhD but I know my child. the doctors need to hear us out before they scribble out their usual augmentin and dismiss us.

My previous gp was able to give me a plan as to how much medication needed to be given according to his weight and how they should be alternated and at what intervals. this doctor wasn't able to help with such advice. Unfortunately after many years of using Medicross, it is time to find a new and more compassionate family doctor who has time to listen.
