Unacceptable service and nursing care

I am generally a very tolerant person who doesn’t usually complain, but I delivered at this very same hospital two years ago and the service standards have definitely dropped since then. I cannot tolerate shabby service especially since this is a private hospital and we are paying clients. The only thing that boasted excellent service was the compassionate doctors who took care of me whilst I was in their care. The rest is sorely lacking compassion and empathy. I was admitted to the above-mentioned hospital last month. After undergoing major surgery, I was transferred to the ICU, and a few days later was transferred to the maternity ward. The shoddy treatment received at ward level was shocking. The quality of nursing care rendered by the staff was unprofessional and poor. Their attitude and demeanor was not helpful at all. Even though I was in a private ward, the care I received was minimal. I felt as if I was a burden every time I rang the nurse call bell for assistance. I was in a lot of pain post-op and when requested nursing assistance to shower, I was helped to the bathroom and left alone and told that I can shower on my own. Doctors orders were not followed timeously. I had to remind the nurses to remove my urinary catheter. This was done several hours after my doctor ordered for it to be removed. The catheter caused me a tremendous amount of trauma and as a result an infection as well. The absence of IV and catheter checks astounded me as these were still insitu. Nobody checked on these and as a result I ended up with a bladder infection which I had to be treated for with antibiotics upon discharge. The nurse also failed to dress my wound and remove the clips as per the doctors request. I had to go to my gynaes rooms to have this attended to.

In my opinion , if the quality of care does not improve, this facility can expect to lose valuable clients like myself due to pathetic service rendered.
