Total neglect and lack of professionalism from nurses at Mediclinic Nelspruit

Very shocked and disappointed in what we had to witness and experience yesterday while we visited my 92 year old Grandmother in Medi Clinic Nelspruit.

My grandmother is in a very bad way at the moment, due to a hernia she is dehydrated and malnourished. She is hallucinating, not making sense with speech and her eyesight seems to be deteriorating. She therefore is unable to look after herself at all... While sitting in the ward with her we noticed that her drip was leaking to the point that it was serving no purpose. That drip was crucial for her in that point in time so we alerted the nurses. In the process of removing the faulty drip and and inserting a new drip needle the nurse appeared to struggle, making my grandmother shriek with pain at least 5 times as she tried to insert the needle correctly, eventually another nurse took over and supposedly did it properly. Already at that point my grandmother started bleeding onto the bed but they ignored it and left the room. We assumed all was in order.

10 minutes later we realised her sheets were drenched in blood and blood was literally gushing from the wound where the drip was. Her blood is very thin due to her medication. My gran in her state was not aware of this at all. It was terrible, if we were not in that room to alert the nurses its almost certain she would have bled to death on that bed right there and then. She simply would not be able to deal with that on top of what she is already going through. Zero apologies from the two nurses in question, only later an apology came from another nurse who was not involved. They dont care and it seems they want you to know it.

SHOCKING lack of care from these nurses. You can easily pick up that they do not want to help you. You feel helpless
