Ridiculous Admin Fees
I recently had an experience at Mediclinic Stellenbosch that started off very well but unfortunately ended in frustration due to issues with documentation and billing. In September 2024, my GP referred me to Mediclinic Stellenbosch as an emergency case that required monitoring in the hospital. Upon arrival, the staff were incredibly helpful and provided excellent care throughout my visit, and I was made to feel comfortable and well-cared for.
However, after my visit, I was faced with a serious issue when it came to the billing. I received a bill of over R1400, which was not covered by my medical aid. I was informed that my doctor needed to complete a PMB application form to have the costs covered, which she promptly did. To my surprise, I then received a response indicating that the hospital itself should have completed this form, and I was required to provide test results and a casualty report from the hospital in order for the medical aid to process the claim.
I called the hospital multiple times and sent numerous emails to get these documents, only to be told that I would need to pay an additional R800 for the casualty report. This added cost of R800, on top of the already hefty bill of R1400, is completely unreasonable. It’s incredibly frustrating to be caught in this paperwork loop, especially when I am already paying significant premiums to my medical aid for coverage.
Unfortunately, despite my efforts, my medical scheme ultimately refused to cover the bill due to insufficient documentation. As a result, I am left with a bill I didn't budget for, all because of inadequate support from the hospital’s side.
I hope Mediclinic Stellenbosch takes these concerns seriously and addresses the process around documentation and billing more effectively in the future.
