R1500 billed for 10min consultation + unnecessarily blood tests + not calling my gynaecologist

Below is my experience as a 9 week pregnant woman at Kloof Mediclinic in Pretoria:

I am extremely upset. On Friday evening at 22pm I went to kloof emergency with ******l bleeding. As a 9-week pregnant woman, I was informed by my doctor's-sister in law to go to the ER immediately. Here I was met with admin and paperwork - fine - and after about 30min I was admitted into the ER room. Here "doctor" Edward was the doctor on service and he saw me. I did a urine test. He indicated that I have a bladder infection and the ONLY inspection he further did on me was a stethoscope on my stomach. He asked for a blood test - which I now found out is just another pregnancy test - that he wanted to be repeated the next day at 12 pm. I asked him to call my gynaecologist, Dr Holder, and he didn't want to. He did not do a pelvic exam on me or investigate to see if my cervix was still closed. So with a script for antibiotics and an appointment to redo these magical blood tests, I was sent home at 12am. It's important to note that I told this "doctor" that I am a high-risk patient - and still - he decided not to inform my gynaecologist.

Furthermore, the pathologist who tried to draw my blood was EXTREMELY unprofessional. He couldn't find a vain. So he took out the needle from my arm - didn't put a bandage or pressure to stop bleeding, whereafter he literally LAID over me to get to my other arm. On top of this, he kept on pulling up his nose - and making gargling noises ongoingly. I was really uncomfortable and asked him to leave and rather send me someone professional. The nurse completed the drawing of the blood - two needle *****s later.

This was a horrible and traumatic experience whereby I literally could've stayed home and saw my doctor in peace the next day.

Saturday morning 4 March, the new ER doctor called me, saying that Dr Holder isn't happy with the blood test approach and that I should be at the hospital at 8am for an internal sonar.

On Saturday morning, I called the Kloof complaints room and told this lady I would NOT be billed for the previous evening's visit. Firstly, it was an absolute waste of my time as dr Holder didn't want the blood tests + Dr Holder even rewrote my script. So a bill of R1500 later for 3 March was an absolutely useless visit. This visit was only focused on making money from a patient and NOT with my best interest at heart. My medical aid rejected a THIRD pregnancy test - because why must I do another test when I am already 9 weeks pregnant.

Today it's 8 March. I just received a call from Ampath informing me of an outstanding account - the useless pregnancy test. Further, I've received emails from my medical aid not paying for the R712 emergency room fee. "Doctor" Edward has been paid his R850 for the 10min he spend with me NOT giving me any useful information.

Kloof Emergency is useless and no one should visit their ER if they are truly in an emergency. Poor service, really bad quality doctor and pathologist. Actually just shocking.

With this in writing, I am formally informing Kloof that I will NOT be paying an account of 3 March. I will take further legal action if needed because that was horrible and no patient should be treated like that. I will inform my medical aid to order a refund from "doctor" Edward as well.

If this is not resolved, I will take further action by informing local journalists about this to log a formal investigation of how patients are billed for barely any services rendered.
