Medical service rip-off

What recourse do we have when medical practitioners fail to implement, follow basic processes to make things as effective for everyone involved. GPs can guess and prescribe a treatment based on that guestimate, specialists can charge for a visit irrespective of whether a service was rendered. there is no due diligence on their part. I really went to see an Endocrinologist on my GP's advice. I have recently, that week, stopped the meds that she had prescribed to treat a "Thyroid"condition. She failed to advise that i would have to wait at least 6 weeks for the meds to work out of my system before i engaged the specialist. The specialist on their part charged R2000 for the first visit to tell me that i would have to wait this 6 weeks, and that I would have to do blood work before they could diagnose. after 6 weeks i went back. The specialist would have had my lab results back by then, done the preceding week. Visit number 2 cost R1750 for her to tell me that the "thyroid"condition had righted itself and there was nothing for her to do. Which means i have paid R5497, and only the lab tests was in exchange for something. The specialist could have called me and told me that i would not have to come and see here, because no specialist intervention was required! What can i do?
