Failing Private Health Care

I was advised that I would need a minor surgery on my right knee on the 26.02.2020. I was asked by the specialists reception that I would need to call for authorisation from my medical aid, which already raised a concerm for me, my previous experiences was always the specialists and hospital administration would call for that. Be that as it may, I did as I was instructed and pre booked my room at Mediclinic Nelspruit 4 days prior to the surgery. I was asked to report to the hospital at 6am on the morning of the surgery after completing the necessary paperwork I was asked to take a seat until I was allocated a bed. After a 2,5hour wait I follow up only to be told that there are no beds as yet and my surgey is only scheduled for 6pm the evening. Between the hospital staff and the specialists staff no one exactly knows what time I will be operated on and in the mean time I was not able to eat from 8pm the previous night now it will follow through to 6pm ...almost 24 hours!

How appalling is it that we pay a fortune for private health care but still we wait for beds?!? How is it the specialists receptionist/assistance vannit coordinate a simple procedure, that is their job after all?? I was sent between the hospital and specialists rooms 3 times this morning... as no one is sure what will happen... The lack of service delivery is shocking, the lack of empathy for someone who must have surgery is disgusting... I hope these staff members (both Mediclinic and the receptionist of the Orthopedic surgeon) never have to endure this kind of nonsense. What has happened to compassion and service in the medical industry? Private seems to be no different from Government experience only difference is we pay dearly for **** service in Private!
