Disgusting Care at Brits Medi-clinic

I would just like to let you know about my recent experience at Brits Medi-Clinic with my mother and the terrible care that she received there. I would never ever recommend this hospital to anyone and especially not to elderly loved ones. My mom was 85 years old with Parkinson's Disease. She was admitted for a very bad bladder infection and severe delusional episodes.

She was under a physician. I phoned his rooms five times and was finally able to speak to him 4 days later, when I found him doing hospital rounds. He never responded to my repeated telephone calls to his receptionist. He told us he was running tests and wanted to do a CT scan. When we asked questions, he did not give a suitable answer saying that he was not a neurologist or a psychologist.

She lost my dad 6 months ago. We visited her every day in hospital and on two occasions she was in bed with bedding that was saturated with urine. She could not get to the toilet as she was frail and was a fall risk and she was on oxygen. The nurses only changed her and the bed linen when I complained. They did not brush her teeth. Her food tray was left on the trolley out of her reach, no one put it over the bed, where she could reach it to eat. Her food was not cut up, as requested, because of her Parkinson's Disease so her food just stayed next to her bed and was taken away later. No one responded to her ringing the bell, they just ignored her. We were told this by the other patients in the ward as well.

We asked the nurses nicely to help her and were told “sure, no problem,” they will help her but as soon as we left the ward, nothing was done. My husband phoned the hospital admin and patient care, they did speak to the doctor and the nurses but the doctor just suddenly discharged her, and the nurses were so rough changing her. She did not know that we had complained.

Please do not send your loved ones, especially the elderly, as they have no voice at Brits Medi-Clinic. I just hope, by this review that I can help, even one person, from having to be treated like my darling mother.
