Capetown Medi-clinic Hof street ER Don't expect treatment soon (or at all in my case)

Unfortunately one cannot post without at least one star. My experience, during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic I awoke to a burning watering right eye like a sharp object lodged. I couldn't see through it. I called an Ophthalmologist who explained do not have emergency status and suggested an ER to expedite things. Arrived at about noon, waited until admitted just before 1pm, was told to wait for a bed. Q. Why need a bed for an eye inspection? A. That's how it works.

After 3 pm still waiting, in a common area busy with roaming public and staff, I went to inquire, the clerk checked the system picked up the phone and spoke briefly and said I should sit down and wait to be fetched (what I was told some hours before). He asked why hadn't told him I was waiting, by that time the only patient waiting. All others attended to long before. Asking how long it may be he could not say.

This is an ER for heavens sake, a long wait in an ER, common area under isolation rules is a recipe for contagion. "E" stands for EMERGENCY - take that sign down !!!

I left without treatment after spending the better part of the day, unattended. Horrific experience for one who had to endure the condition untreated. Went to a GP and got seen right away. By then the sharp object couldn't be located

I later called to discuss. Two days later received a call from a Dr Naike (Not sure of spelling) offering an apology and thanking me assisting to improve their system, but more interested in refuting my timeline. But their system only records after waiting some time for others in line to register and then to complete the admissions process. THEY obviously HAVE NO SYSTEM that cares for patients. Less critical services eg. Telkom, Post office have a system that advises what number you are and the expected waiting time. An ER with nothing of the sort deemed necessary.
