I was admitted to Potchefstroom Medi-Clinic for facial surgery on the 17th of September 2024. I'm writing to you in the hopes that my brother and sisters don't receive the same treatment. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and upon learning that i was discriminated against. First they said they couldnt get a vein for drip. I was very nice about it while they were trying. I found it strange as I've never had problems with my veins before. They hurt me badly and when they removed needle, I wondered why he couldn't get the vein as it looked to me like he had. Anyway, another nurse came in got a vein but put the drip in wrong so when medicine was administered it burnt really bad. Then I was told I could eat and drink up until 12 pm the next day as my surgery would only be late afternoon. The next morning, they changed that and made me go without water and food until my surgery. I was without water for 24 hours even developing a headache. I started realising these mistakes were actually deliberate because of my religion. I was also given way too much anaesthesia and struggled with nausea and to wake up. I was pleasant the whole time not complaining at all. I'm hurt that I received such cruel and biased treatment based on the religion I choose to represent.
