Con-artist / Thys van Wyk / MD's Renovation Projects

Contracted this company to do some renovations at my house and paid R70 000-00 cash deposit. He never arrived the first day claiming his workers had not arrived for work. On the second day only himself (Thys van Wyk) and one other assistant arrived to paint the whole roof of 300 odd square meters and do other tasks. He also purchased rubberized roof paint which was not what was agreed on. He said that this is the only paint that he will use. I complained to him about this and he gave sum ******* excuse saying that he cannot return the paint although he is clearly lying as the consumer act says otherwise and it was only purchased the previous day. He then left at 12h00 same day. I asked him why he had left early on which he said he went to work out a new quotation as he can now give me a better price. He supp**** 2 new quotations the following day but did not arrive to work. Strangely these new quotations was for the same work but now almost half the original amount quoted and almost the same amount as the R70000-00 deposit paid, namely R71467.22 and R77029.64. It was clear he had overcharged excessively on the original quotation as how can he do the same work suddenly at almost half the price? I obtained 3 other quotes which all came in at around R30000-00 using the same paint as the R71467.22 new quotation. Based on this I turned it down and asked for my deposit back minus the cost of the light he had fixed. He refused claiming many things such as not being able to return the incorrect paint that he purchased. He insisted that I purchase the paint from him including a 20% mark up before he would give any money back. He said he will invoice me for the paint which he never did and subtract this amount from the R70000-00. He also refused to return the paint to my home, saying he will do so when he gets time. He also said he will invoice me for the work done as he pleases and subtract it from the R70000-00 regardless of any quote given. Additionally, how am I suppose to return paint that I have no invoice for? Now I have to try and sell it second hand at a loss. It is my opinion that this Thys van Wyk is an con-artist and ***** and must be avoided at all cost.
