Worst Duty Manager Ever
I caught an Uber to your store in Observatory this morning on my way to work, to redeem the points I had earned through your app, for being a loyal customer. I scanned the code into the machine to redeem the Big Mac medium meal but it wouldn't let me checkout. I call the girl who was on the till and handing out food to come see. I asked her to come quickly before the countdown for the code expired and she took her time.
When she got to me and she saw the error on the self checkout machine, she said she didn't know what was happening and I gave her my phone to enter the code manually into her till, but of course the code has expired by then.
I stayed by the machine bc I didn't want it to lose my order. I then called a guy who was walking past and asked for his help. He took one look at it and I could see he had no idea what this is all about even though I had explained it to him. I then asked him to go call the manager for me, which he responded to eagerly but he went behind the wall, where the drinks are and didn't come back out. I then asked a food packer to get a manager to come to me as I'm standing at the machine, guarding it so it doesn't lose my order. The packer spoke to the guy who went to call the manager and he laughed from behind the wall. I was shocked to later find out he was the manager himself!
In all this time I was pointed to 3 different managers by the way and everyone was mumbling in the back about they don't know anything about the self checkout machines.
I got Siyasanga eventually who came to meet me at the machine and tried her best to help. She asked the manager (I think his name was Luanda or something starting with an L) to give me my meal and override due to the failures on their end to promptly come help me at the machine and the manager said in front of me 'But they're going to get their points back again' and refused to help. Siyasanga then went to the phone to call someone higher up to approve the override/promo and she had to tell the manager to stay by my side while this was being sorted out as the staff had been avoiding me all along.
While she was gone, I confronted the manager for avoiding me and not coming clean by saying he is the store manager when I asked him to get the manager and about him laughing about my situation at the back. He said while giggling, he went to get me help, but the person he got, who was the cashier Sisipho didn't know anything herself (she said so multiple times) and he didn't follow up with me, he just where the drinks are made.
I was supposed to be at work at 11. I range this store 3 times at 10:30am to ask them to make the food so long to avoid a long wait in the store as they do take their time here, but the phone wasn't answered. And because of this rigmarole, I reported for duty at 11:33.
I am ****ing appalled by the conduct of your store manager. He is ***********, evasive to customers and has zero problem solving skills. He behaves more like a festive season casual than an actual manager. I mean look at him. He looks like a Pollsmoor escapee and I doubt he can even speak English properly. He never even apologized to me once throughout this ordeal, even after I told him I'll be making a complaint about him specifically. Is this the quality of people you promote? He doesn't run a tight ship at all. It is true that this started because of a technological issue that is none of the staff's fault, but it is also true that the staff handled this very poorly and exacerbated the negative experience to the customer.
I would also like someone to tell Luyanda or whatever the hell his name is that I wasn't trying to score a free meal. I obviously earned the 1000s of points on the app through being loyal to McDonald's. I can buy whatever I want from the menu, cash. The Uber I got to get me to that godforsaken store costs more than anything on your menu! I didn't need a freebie! And I had called a cashier to come help me, I called Luyanda himself to come help me but he went to go hide behind the wall from me and I called another short lady who packs the food to get me a damn manager because I was being ignored while I was late for work.
Lastly, I fell sick a couple hours after eating this food. It was either food poisoning or they spiked my food to spite me (I know this is a serious accusation, but I don't expect a runny tummy after McDonald's). I'm not sure which is worse. Either one of these scenarios could have you facing litigation, please investigate. A complete shambles throughout, apart from Siyasanga who was brilliant and saved the day.
