What does drive through mean?

If someone can please explain to me what the initial marketing concept of drive through means I would really appreciate it. I have only been to this branch twice since it opened via the drive through an I always end up having to park to wait for food and always more than 15min. I'm just saying don't advertise drive through if you cannot handle it. Because then people won't expect it of you. Am I wrong?
