Misleading & deceptive Promotion @ Macdonalds Observatory
Dear McDonalds Customer Care
I bought a 'standard cappuccino' at McDonalds, Observatory which is in Cape Town South Africa less than half an hour ago which puts the time and date at approximately 11:30 on 2 October 2019 and I write to you on the same day. I purchased the coffee at the automated machines. I then noticed a cardboard notice indicating that on Wednesdays, consumers get a free donut with that coffee. I asked for the donut since I met all the requirements according to that notice (including its terms and conditions) but was informed that I cannot get the donut. Staff informed me that it is against procedure to give me the donut and that I was supposed to buy the coffee from the counter in order to get that promotion. Apparently they had the same problem with a different consumer yesterday. I asked for them to address the matter, recognising that someone of managerial level or above could rectify the matter but I was ignored and I left back to campus to continue the month I have left of this post-grad law degree.
Aggrieved, I inform you that there was a breach of the consumer protection Act since I failed to remedy the matter in store, I contact you as my next step. A donut is a small matter but certainly not de minimus to a consumer. No reasonable consumer would have known to purchase coffee at the counter for this particular purpose in the context I described.
I have received no adequate response from MCD which is why I write the review as the next step in enforcing consumer rights which I have already informed them of in
