McDonald's KwaDukuza - Safety Concern, Horrific experience
I had an extremely terrible ordeal at McDonald's Kwadukuza on Monday (24/02/25). My finacé and I went to the McDonald's KwaDukuza around 7pm. After +/-5 minutes of entering the establishment, 2 males walked in and started making conversation and interacting with my fiancé and I. We assumed they were under the influence and did not want to cause a scene and listened to them speaking. Whilst doing so the first male elbow bumped me and put his arm around me as he was speaking to me, and made a joke and we laughed about it. I was focused on the second male who was behind my Fiancé making sure she was not harmed in any way, not realizing I was the victim of a crime. My cellular phone was ******, all in clear view of the security guard (Amabhokobhoko Security Services) who watched the entire incident unfold and only came to inform me after the perpetrators left and advised me to check if I have all my belongings as this has been a regular occurrence at McDonald's KwaDukuza as it has happened 3 times previously.
I spoke to the manager on shift at the time of incident to view footage or if he can view it to determine if the perpetrators left in a vehicle or on foot, to which he refused and advised I need a SAPS Case no for him to assist me and further stated they have a disclaimer, I entered at my own risk. I became irate and asked to speak to a superior who can assist me to which he advised there is nobody, the only other manager is unavailable and she is too far away.
I then went and opened a SAPS case and went to the establishment on Tuesday (25/02/25) for assistance with the footage, to which I was refused by the Restaurant Manager (Glennys Maart), and advised I need to come with SAPS in order to obtain footage, and I quote "you need to apply fire at SAPS for them to come here, only then I can help you, other than that, I cannot", this was also reiterated by the Risk manager, Sifiso Zulu, of which I requested details of all role players and did not receive any apart from the Restaurant Manager (Glennys Maart).
I then went to KwaDukuza SAPS and was advised by SAPS to return to the establishment, a detective will meet me there. The detective arrived to which I explained the incident and he went to the Manager (Glennys Maart) to inform her that his from KwaDukuza SAPS and was investigating the incident that happened the previous afternoon, and presented his SAPS appointment card. To which the Manager (Glennys) refused access and made an accusation that I could get anyone to impersonate a SAPS official to come to the establishment. She then further advised the detective to send an e-mail from preferably the station commanders desk advising which detective will be coming to the establishment with full details in order to grant access, without that access will be denied. She further went on to say she is not denying access but just following procedure and protocol.
Is this the way patrons are treated? When an incident occurred within the establishment.
Is this the McDonald's procedures and protocol? To date I have not received a call from anyone from the establishment, yet I have logged a complaint (Ref INC-BE7B6-39CDB5).
Is this not what business entities have liability cover for?
Note: I also requested for the Security officers Psira card to verify his details at the time of incident, to which he refused and advised he does not need to produce one.
McDonald's KwaDukuza needs to be properly vetted as they have many flaws and staff in managerial positions that are not competent.
