McDonalds - Belhar, Cape Town
The Morning of Saturday 12th May 2018, my colleague and I, stopped at Belhar McDonald's to get breakfast on our way to work. We arrived at the store 10:20am. The cashier, Noliswa, asked my colleague and I for our orders. When I placed the order she politely told me that their breakfast period was over. Behind me was a long line of eager customers also waiting for Breakfast. Because We aren't usually or originally from this area, my colleague and I proceeded to get something lighter to go. There were some who had left as we were no longer able to order breakfast. Eventually a gentleman who regularly visits this store approached the counter. He said that he is in there everyday and breakfast is till 11:00am. She (the cashier) was adamant that this particular store only served breakfast till 10:30.
My problem with the above is that I was there at 10:20am which was sufficient time and in the time frame. Secondly, after much deliberation and scwabbling, the manager had no choice but to give everyone breakfast in the line (+/- 7 people after me)
In my opinion I feel they need to be consistent and stick to a specific time slot. This left a nasty taste in my mouth that I didn't even want my order any longer. She needed to be truthful and help me as I was well within time for breakfast. She was not helpful and actually thought the entire incident was funny.
Your staff is your first point of reference and markets your company/brand. This is not the sort of staff you need. As front of house, she was unable to deal with the situation and in my opinion had escalated it rather then smooth over the issue.
