McDelivery Unlicensed Driver Accident Victim
I was involved in an accident on 28 August with a McDelivery driver. He ran a red light and rode my rear bumper clean off. Upon confronting him I discovered he does not have a license. I fought 3 times with the Stoneridge branch to send a copy of his passport so I can file a police report. The motorbike was unroadworthy: no light and he cited a faulty break as the reason for going through the light.
For the past 2 months I have been sent from pillar to post to claim compensation to repair my vehicle. McDonald's has been incredibly unhelpful and unprofessional.
First, McDonald's corporate told me to deal with Nirdosh, who deals with their insurance. He was of absolutely no use but kept promising he is sorting it out/getting a claim number. Knowing FULL WELL McDonald's outsources their McDelivery function, which I would later find out.
Fast forward MULTIPLE calls, mails etc. to the branch, call centre and many parties I am finally given contact details for Wikus Moll. He owns the motorbikes and the drivers are under his employ.
The unprofessional parade continues:
1) Upon visiting the branch and speaking to the Driver Supervisor I am told he does not know what is going on but that the driver refuses to work because his salary was withheld. I am a third party and am unsure why this is my business???
2) Wikus indicated to me more than once he wants to make the driver pay in his personal capacity for this incident.
3) I sent him a quote but he does not want to pay, rather wants to use "his guy" but cannot for 3 weeks indicate a place I am to take my vehicle for the repairs.
4) Wants to settle cash and not involve insurance.
None of this bodes well but I just wanted compensation or for my vehicle to be repaired so was willing to co operate.
HOWEVER, guess who is still no better off than 2 months ago? Wikus has become uncommunicative and unresponsive. Like all parties I have dealt with.
This is how McDonald's and the people it has service agreements with does business. It's disgraceful and it's best to hope you're never a victim of an accident and the subsequent unprofessional behaviour.
