Made to wait for drive through food

When buying fast food through the drive through, we are often made to park and wait as food is not ready in time. Since we have already paid, it's all we can do other than reverse the order. I feel that this is a safety issue and I was made to wait with my whole family in the car tonight. If anything were to happen while we wait like sitting ducks I wonder what would happen. I
