BEWARE! McDonald's Mayville BEWARE! McDonald's Mayville – Unacceptable Hygiene & Customer Service

This evening, we decided to get takeout from McDonald's Mayville. The drive-thru was busy, so we opted to go inside, place our order at the self-service kiosk, and wait. Everything seemed fine at first.

However, while waiting, I noticed a commotion in the kitchen area. Upon closer observation, I saw an employee touching their mouth and nose before continuing to prepare a burger—without washing their hands. Initially, I thought they might be making their own meal, but that was not the case. Shortly after, another staff member handled nuggets with bare hands, packed them, and then wiped their hands on their uniform. This was concerning, and when I pointed it out to my fiancée, she also noticed similar unhygienic practices, including a staff member handling drinks in an unsanitary manner and another doing the same with a foldover and burger.

To our shock, none of the kitchen staff wore gloves, hair coverings, or any protective gear while handling food. Concerned, I politely asked to speak with the manager regarding the lack of hygiene and food safety protocols. The manager's response was dismissive and arrogant—he stated that McDonald's staff are not required to wear gloves or any protective gear. When I requested a refund, as I no longer felt comfortable eating food prepared under such conditions, I was told that McDonald's does not issue refunds and that it was "my loss." The manager then turned away, dismissively shouting that they "don’t use gloves or anything" in front of the counter.

This experience was beyond disappointing—poor hygiene, poor service, and complete disregard for basic food safety standards. Customers deserve better, and McDonald's Mayville failed in every regard.

If you want the photo's and video I am more than wiling to share it with you, in addition the food is in my fridge is you also want the food back as I paid R238.70 for absolutely nothing.
