Bad service and forced to walk where cars come and go in the drive-through.

I have been an avid supporter of Mcdonald's for a long time, but the branch in Durbanville, Cape Town, has been going backwards with every purchase I make there. I am no longer happy and will not be purchasing from them anymore, and here is why:

Today, 13 August 2021, I was left to wait for a clerk to assist me in the drive-through, only to tell me that the card machine does not work and that I will have to go inside to make my purchase.

Then, the car ahead of me had to wait 10 minutes for his order, of which the medium coffee they initially gave him was wrong, it had to be large, and then he was ignored until he finally yelled into the window to bring his food. I was stuck behind him until he could leave, because I was not willing to reverse out of the winding drive-through, potentially scratching my car or going up on the curb.

So once I got out of the drive-through, I went inside through the door that leads to the car park where I had to park, using the zebra stripes to access the building safely.

Inside, I placed my order, waited another 10 minutes, the guy also waiting for his food's coffee order was also wrong - again a medium given but a large ordered. Also, the clerks were unfriendly. Not sure why, as the restaurant was not busy. People were leaving without ordering through the drive-through due to the broken card machine.

When I eventually got my meal, I tried to leave via the same door, but it was locked. The secutiry officer was sitting at a nearby table with his phone in his hand and told me the door is to remain closed for Covid regulations.

Okay, so I understand the regulations, but here is my problem: I entered through there, so how are the regulations being adhered to if I could enter, but suddenly not be able to leave? I was then forced to leave the building through the other exit on the other side of the building, away from the lot where I parked. So in doing so, I felt very unsafe, because I had to walk in the street, dodge 2 cars (one entering the drive-through area, close to the accessible parking that side of the building), and one exiting the drive-through, as there is no wrap-around pavement for me to safely manouevre around the building, back to the safe zebra stripes to lead me to the parking lot with my car in. I also had to dodge a delivery motorcycle who also came driving in as I was forced to walk in the street.

So yes - potentially saved from having to touch a door handle - but forced to walk through oncoming cars, placing my life at risk, all because they would not allow me to use the same door I entered through, and also the only safe route to take to get to the side of the building where I parked.
