MBD punishes client for settling account and refuses to correct mistakes on credit profile!
MBD bought one of my accounts that I couldn't settle before. In Nov 2019 I contacted MBD and asked for a settlement amount. The MBD letter dating 14 Nov 2019 indicated that I owed R3188.90. Their settlement letter providing the 30% discount stated that the final amount owed was R2232.23. I arranged to pay the full outstanding balance on 25 Nov 2019. The call centre agent made a mistake but eventually two equal payments of R1116.12 were made on 25 and 27 Nov 2019. There was a zero balance and I requested a paid up letter and eagerly awaited my credit profile to be updated. This is when my problems started, Suddenly, in Dec 2019, MBD opened an account on my profile stating that I am 30 days in arrears (Feb 2019)! Opening Balance R9474 (not R3188.90) Current Balance R3188 (not ZERO) Installment R3188 The MBD account did NOT appear on my profile before AND WAS ONLY ADDED AFTER I HAVE PAID THE ACCOUNT IN FULL. Instead of finally moving into the GOOD category, my credit profile dropped 30 points! I contacted MBD Legal and requested them to rectify the problem as I truly believe that they erred by adding their account to my profile instead of updating the original Capitec account that was in arrears and that was still on my credit profile. Surely there cannot be two accounts listed on a credit profile for one actual account/loan? I base this assumption on my personal experience of the way that the settlement of my other Capitec account was handled by a third party: as soon as the account was settled it WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM MY CREDIT PROFILE, WITHOUT ADDING THEIR DETAILS TO MY RECORD. In response MBD IMMEDIATELY ADJUSTED my credit score DOWNWARDS AGAIN and stated that I was now 30 days in arrears (March 2019) and 60 days in arrears (April 2019) WITHOUT CORRECTING THE OPENING BALANCE AND CURRENT BALANCE! My credit score DROPPED ANOTHER 42 points and suddenly I found myself in the AVERAGE category! MBD HAS INEXPLICABLY ALTERED MY SCORE NEGATIVELY TWICE IN ONE WEEK AFTER I HAVE SETTLED THE FULL AMOUNT and stubbornly refuses to correct the most basics of mistakes / false information as shown above! Although I have contacted MBD call centre several times and Magdeline escalates the matter after each call, as well as submitting written proof and requests to Nkosinathi at Queries Department, my MBD account was now 'updated' or 'downgraded' to being 120 days in arrears (July 2019) and 150 days in arrears for August, September and October. Strangely November, December, the Opening Balance and Current Balance have not been updated! THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND IT CANNOT BE RIGHT OR FAIR. If one picks up problems with other credit providers such as Standard Bank or DMC, or other attorneys as mentioned above, matters are handled very differently and more positively and does not impact negatively on one's credit profile. IF THIS IS HOW PEOPLE ARE PUNISHED FOR STRUGGLING THEN THERE IS NO INCENTIVE FOR MAKING SACRIFICES AND TRYING VERY HARD TO IMPROVE ONE’S CREDIT PROFILE. I urge MBD to get there act together and stop punishing people who are trying to do the right thing. Also, admit when there is a mistake and correct it immediately. I also urge the relevant credit authorities and watchdogs to investigate MBD and there harmful practices.
